About Konotop

Konotop is a city (1990 est. pop. 96,900) in North Ukraine, on the Ezuch River. It is a rail junction and agricultural center with railroad repair shops and an electromechanics industry. Konotop was founded in 1634 by the Poles, who made it a fortress. It was ruled briefly by the Ukrainian hetman Chmielnicki and his successor and later became a Polish district center.
